So I just did my first practice test for PAT untimed, and it took me 90 minutes. Maybe I'm freaking out prematurely but that does not seem very good. I know the key to getting faster is by repetition but I was wondering if anyone has any helpful strategies to improve my timing so I can at least guess on as few as possible.

I just feel like 90 is too long. If i was at like 70, I'd say that would come down with practice. Yikes! Who knows!!

My first untimed CDP took me 75 minutes (about). Trust me, if you keep going through it you will be able to go fast. Someone on the forums told me that I should do CDP 1-3 untimed, then do CDP 1-3 timed (60 minutes). My scores improved from it but more importantly I got my timing down.
CDP 1- 18 (68.4%); TIMED-23 (99.8%)
CDP2- 20 (88.5%); TIMED-20 (88.5%)
CDP3- 20 (88.5%); TIMED-22 (97.1%)

I would suggest you do the same and see where you are at then.
Also, with more practice (at least for me), my cube counting got faster, pattern folding became easier, and hole punching took less time as I got used to the various folds.

Its all good man. Its your first test. You should not time yourself your first few to learn what your doing and understand techniques and strategies you can learn. I didnt time my 1st 5 tests and then went back and retimed them. It took me 80+ minutes on all the untimed ones because I wasnt rushing myself and figuring out what to do. I then went back and re timed them and finished all of them with time left and at least a 2+ point increase. I just finished the last 5 over the past 2 weeks untimed and have yet to make a score below a 23.

You have time, don't freak out. Just practice

Don't worry. You still have time. Just keep practicing! Is there a particular section that consume too much time? I will say focus first on the easy ones such as Cube counting, Pattern folding. Once you knock some sections out of the way, you will build confidence and can focus on other remaining ones. Good luck! PAT is quite hard at first. If you put in time, it will be your friend eventually!
