I take my Path mock board in a couple of hours and I was wondering for those who have taken both the Path Mock board and Step 1: How do the length, difficulty, and style of questions of questions on the Path mock board compare to the path questions you saw on Step 1?

I haven't taken Step 1 yet, and don't know what the Path mock board is, but I took the NBME Path exam if that is what you are referring to. I thought it was one of the hardest tests that I have ever taken, but ended up doing quite well on it. If this is what you are taking, I hope that your school's path class mainly focused on pathophys, because that is what 95% of the test is.

The questions are different, but the thought process is similar. Both have questions where classic symptoms are given and is pretty straightforward. Both also have two and three step questions that you have to think about, often when they give you a picture to let you figure out what's going on. And both focus more on the basic science mechanism of disease, rather than a pure clinical standpoint (though they will give you clinical scenarios and symptoms that will help you out a lot). I haven't gotten my score back yet but I did think that the Path board is a good estimate to see how prepared you are for the boards (I did alright on a practice shelf a week after my Path board).

For the last couple of years our school has had a mandatory NBME Comprehensive Basic Science exam at the end of the year and an optional Kaplan Diagnostic. I thought the NBME exam was easier than Kaplan but more time limited (I think they were supposed to give us 12 more minutes but they didn't). I think USMLE world is much more difficult than both (though I've been doing all first year subjects which I am not as strong with. I haven't done the path questions yet but I have done 40% of the 2000 questions they have.
