Hey all,

Just need a bit of advice. I'm applying for path residency - again! -this year. This time though, I've finished all my boards, worked as a path pa grossing all specimen types and doing frozen sections. I am now a medicine intern. Do u think any of this puts me at an advantage at all?

Thanks,

Pathology experience/exposure = yes

Reasons for not matching in pathology previously = no, depending on exactly what those reasons were

The history is still there, if more removed. Estmating whether you're at an "advantage" means knowing what you're making a comparison against. However, all other things being equal (though they never are), someone with actual day-to-day surgical pathology experience is at an advantage over someone without it.

So wait, if you are applying for path residency again, do you mean you already applied before to path? Or are you referring to the other residency?

Yes, the pathology experience helps because it gives you perspective and you have knowledge about the field - however you had that before and you didn't choose pathology, you chose another field. So you will have to explain that, likely.
