I want to be a pharmacy supervisor, not PIC, what should I do to make myself competitive for this role?

i guess the first step is to start working for cvs? then move up the corporate ladder? but I think you still gotta be a PIC first as with any chain pharmacy. being PIC is like the gate way into the corporate world

Take the PIC role and kiss ass 2000X. Make yourself look good all the time by exceeding metrics. In front of customers, pressure them to do bogus customer service surveys, make sure the said customer mention your name in the survey. Take your corporate people to lunch, pretending that they are your "friend". Ask for more "project" you can do from your boss and pretend you are never satisfied with the extra load, keep asking for more responsibilities. In a meeting, be that guy who talk A LOT and spit out a bunch of corporate nonsense. Take credit and boast whatever you do to your boss/"friend". Pretend to be a social butterfly. Fake it til you make it. If you play it right, you will get it in 3-5 years. Be willing to relocate to where the open position is (it may be just 300 miles from you).

Eh, it's probably more about getting out from behind the bench than it is the money. Although I never saw the appeal of the job personally. Lots of being on the road, lots of dealing with "emergencies", lots of politics/BS/Corporate KoolAid drinking. Still I guess anything beats being behind the bench.

Keep in mind, being supervisor (AKA district manager) now means managing the front store as well… As if the appeal wasn’t small enough already…

Why would anyone want to do this? Being PIC is bad enough dealing with all the whining from all your techs. Now imagine having to answer complaints from every Rph and tech in the district?

I don't get it either.
Why bother with pharmacy school if you're just going to be a dancing corporate clown, enforcing metrics.

Literally a pointless job.

This has been discussed elsewhere, but the short version is: dress like your next job, talk like your next job, act like your next job, work like your next job, and your next job shall eventually come.

Mine is going to be "Special Projects" which is a euphemism for "we can't fire you, but we don't want you anywhere near C-SPAN." I certainly talked my way into this upcoming job if the USH Policy and Planning's reaction to my IT comments on the student loan payment issues are any indication. Candor and frankness are not virtues in the mandarin class.

Without irony or sarcasm, I genuinely believe in that advice for aspiring management. If you don't do it well, your next job might be something other than pharmacy, but that's the risk you take.

Sell your soul to CVS. Let ice run though your veins. Make sure you tattoo "$" on your chest so you can see it every morning in the mirror and remind yourself that nothing else matter except making money for CVS. Be able to give awesome encouraging fake speech through your phone once a week to get those metrics up for your district. Have thick enough skin so that when someone is actually trying to be a good pharmacist and tries to take time doing his or her job, you can deceptively fire them without letting them know the truth and make them think that they're a horrible pharmacist...

Did I leave anything out? hmmm...
