hi, i am thinking about starting a path club at my school. has anyone been part of a path club in med school? what sorts of thinsg did you do? any suggestions?
also, i have been looking to see if any of the national path organizations have student chapters. i haven't found anything. does anyone know if there is a sudent chapter in any path organization? thanks!

Interesting question.

The only "general pathology" organization that I know of that has student membership is the ASCP (www.ascp.org). Being a former cytotechnologist, I also know that the American Society of Cytopathology (www.cytopathology.org) allows student membership.

My school (St. George's) does not have a pathology club. A few of us were actually thinking of starting one, but it never came to fruition.

I'm not sure where you're located, but you may try to arrange an evening seminar with a local pathologist, or perhaps your medical examiner. We have a forensic pathologist from Oklahoma come in every term and talk about some interesting cases (he participated in identifying remains after the Oklahoma City bombing). These lectures are generally well-attended by both faculty and students, and helps to introduce students to pathology. It may be something for you to try and set up at your school.

Hope this helps!

Brian
