I know this is a repeated thread. but I need to make sure 🙂

I hate robbins. Its too big, too consuming

i read previous threads and concluded from that threat that

web path, RR/BRS(choose 1) and goljan audio is quite good.

but.. our prof like... in depth questions.

their lectures are completely figures of Robbins book.

they love robbins.

is RR "complying" with the Robbins chapters and information?

shall i try the robbins review book. the one with tons of questions?

i am about to take path. I didnt take it yet.

but i bought the robbins book, and hated it,

yet my seniors say that profs love robbins.

hmm. any sugg?

shall i just stick with RR?

I have already listened to dr goljan's mp3 lectures twice.

liked it. but didnt understand a lot of it.

but... might help me quite... or not.

well the summary is... -_-

robbins loving profs make robbin based lecture notes.

in depth questions. with quite a lot of clinical questions.

is RR enough? what other supplements should I use,

for COURSEWORK? please dont consider "read robbins" i hate it

My personal thought is that RR would not be enough for your path course. RR, at least the version I had (2006?) was similar to BRS but with a slant on pathophys.

If your professors prefer Robbins which is a very deep text in terms of details, I would try to stick to Robbins or one of the intermediate versions like baby Robbins. Aside from this, if you rely soley on RR, I would suspect that you will also not completely understand it since it does not give the surrounding details to build a strong foundation. If I remember correctly, Goljan actually has another path book (STARS?), one that I believe is actually geared more towards the medical student pathology course (as opposed to RR which really is an adjunct to class or a board review book).

My personal recommendation would be to use Robbins or STARS to get the details and build a foundation. RR is a phenomenal resource (and what I now use to review path fundamentals) but, in my opinion, it is geared more towards big picture, overview and review type stuff.

You could get the baby robbins book ( about $38.00) or you could just try to know Rapid Review by heart and listen to the audio + doing the Robbins path questions. I tried doing that last block (ie. no robbins book at all and barely looking at class notes without even going to class) and I got a 96% on that test (had average about an 82-86% on all prior tests)

Thank you!!

so... basically RR+Baby robbins(or STARS)+ audio+ robbins review?

that sounds.... scarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry

well i guess robbins review would be based upon the robbins book.

so i guess its worth it.

I think Robbins is a great book and I'm happy that it exists, but at this point, I have all but retired it. I'm now a convert to the Rubin Textbook of Pathology. I would suggest checking it out - I'm sure your library will have a copy. IMHO, it does a very good job of explaining the path and including the details you need to know. I've found that I actually do better on Robbin's review questions now that I read Rubin. Robbins has some good explanations, but I found it too time consuming to filter through the all the details and figure out what was truly important.

OTOH, jumping straight to a book like RR doesn't work too well, at least for me, as w/o the conceptual understanding, it's hard to get much out of the book - it reads like a list.
