I just finished first year and I am doing a little prep for next year. I have looked over Robbins and I am not a fan. Just curious if anyone had some suggestions. I started looking over cell injury so any resources here would be appreciated.

Thanks...... 😕 😕

I really liked robbins. The first few chapters are difficult to get through, but after that, it's great at explaining stuff. You need to get the BRS path for sure. Use that as a supplement as you go through the class. It doesn't explain anything in detail so you use it to jog your memory (and for boards). You might want to get the robbins question book. A lot of people find it useful and it's a good aid if you have time to use it. That's all I can think of right now.

what she said.

+ webpath too

google it up. google is your friend.

Robbin's will be your path bible. It's hard at first, because it's all new stuff (not the same college biology junk with the word "medical" tacked on the front), but you'll get used to it. Read through a chapter in robbin's, then use the BRS to see how much you retained, then work through the Robbin's Review of Pathology question book to test yourself. Rinse, repeat for all the chapters, and you'll know all the med school path you need.

If I could do it all over again (famous words 😴 ), I would definitely buy the CD sold on the Utah webpath site. Robbins is good, but there is not enough pictures in it. Of course this depends on resources provided by your school. To give you an example of what I mean- when I was taking connective tissue at my school, lecturers showed lots and lots of pictures that were not available to the students anywhere (they would not release them to us). I must have submitted hundreds of google searches before I got fed up with wasting time. I ultimately suscribed to emedicine online so that I could view their pictures (via enlarging which is not free).

super cool...just avoid the quizzes. they are tough. Look at the tutorials instead.

thy were tough, but with excellent answers. Which is why I think between it and the Robbins review book, if you can do them, you know yer ish. I love doing questions and a) learning from them and b) seeing what Im weak in. Harder the better.

This is my pathology professors website at my school, it sort of keeps up with Robbins and BRS path together, with links to pictures.

The best thing to do is to get in touch with your path course director. Almost every school has some sort of a webpath database set up... its always a good idea to look those up (you never know, they might be on your exam).
Robbins is a pretty crappy read.... but get real this is Path, any which way you are ensured $hi!!y reading.
Go with BRS and the text side by side and your university webpath database once in a while.

The following site has some amusing educational literature:

Edited to note someone beat me to it! Well two recommendations demonstrate its value I guess 😀

Thanks for the suggestions. I was just curious as to what other students found helpful.
Enjoy the summer....

The following were really helpful on our general path qualifier of three days ago:

http://peir2.path.uab.edu/bmp/cat_index_11.shtml - these are videomicroscopy clips from the eighties that do a pretty good job of teaching the general path we needed.

http://iplab.net/ - same university's path program, great general path cases.

and of course WebPath and BRS. Some folks in our class recommended taking notes from Big Robbins actually in BRS.

Thanks, I like the path video modules. I tend to learn better if I can spice up my studying with different sources. Call it short attention span, but I have a hard time just going with one or two resources.
