i just started studying for the DaT. i had a question for pattern folding and how you approach them. Are you supposed to fold into the computer screen? Or fold it towards you?

i mean does it really matter which way you make the folds in pattern folding.. wont you get at the same answer either way? i think either way you'll get to the right answer, or am i worng?

I was under the impression that youre supposed to fold away from you, and not up into the computer and towards you. If I'm not mistaken, some of the wrong answer choices are sometimes ones that you would get if you folded the wrong way, that is, towards you.

Oh My God, I hate pattern folding so much.
It's insanely confusing, I always get some of this stuff wrong.

I am so good at punching holes and angles and numbering, but pattern folding is definitely my weakest.+pissed+
I feel like smashing the computer when I get to this section

I hate keyholes so much. Pattern folding is ok once you get the hang of it. Remember to find similar shapes in the answers and the given pattern.

I am pretty sure that you fold it out of the screen i.e.coming towards you. I hope this helps.

ooh I forgot i didnt respond to your original question. You have to fold out of the screen and no you wont get the same answer by doing it either way. good luck

yea you get differnet answers but are we ALWAYS SUPPOSE TO FOLD OUT? NEVER IN? what if the answer choices work when you fold in...is that a trick and therefore we can mark it wrong?

its funny how no one seems to really know the answer. why all the mixed answers?

so do you "fold towards you" or "fold into the computer"? can someone who knows 100% answer it. one thing we got straight is that you will end up with different answers.

I don't know the answer to this. I have been folding into the screen, and that seems to be working....ususally get 10 or more correct.

BUT, you have brought up an interesting question, and I cannot find any directions specifying which way you fold. The ADA sample test definitely didn't say anything on this issue.

Does anyone know the answer AND have supporting evidence?

yea i really wanna know cuz you do get different answers and more than likely both versions are there to trip you up so which is right?

ANYone know?

I have not looked at the PAT stuff in a while but I thought the directions are to fold INTO the screen.

i'm taking a kaplan course right now, and i clearly recall you have to fold INTO the page/INTO the computer screen. i got screwed on my first practice test with this. lol. thank god it wasnt the real thing:laugh:

Fold INTO THE SCREEN... but remember the answer can have the actual figure rotated.

you have to fold into the screen..because if you fold towards you, the middle shape will be covered and you won't see the shapes, colorings, etc of the middle shape...so you need to FOLD INTO THE SCREEN>

sounds like INTO screen is the right answer since that's what everyone keeps saying so I will def. try to do that next time...hopefully it will make a difference

thank you guys! 🙂
