Has anyone tried Paul Bolin's videos on youtube?

I just started studying for CK and so far I really don't like the combination of kaplan videos and MTB... feel like MTB glosses over a lot of stuff.

Was wondering if anyone had more experience with Bolin.

Thanks

I've been watching his videos also to help study for CK, too! It's awesome that he put in all his time to put in his time to put together all these videos and make them available for free on Youtube.

What makes his videos great is that he is clear and organized tells you the essentials with the editorial commentary you get from people like Fischer.

The videos are not comprehensive but he covers a lot of topics and he is adding videos every day. Because his videos are new not a lot of people know about him. You guys should check them out, especially if you're an auditory learner. I recommend using the HTML5 version of Youtube and listening at 2x speed.

I watched his videos because I needed something to listen to while washing dishes, doing laundry, driving etc. and they're free. I only listened to the final videos in each section where he goes over a bunch of practice questions out loud. He reads a case, the answer choices, then explains the answer and why the other choices are wrong(my favorite part). I did that usually for the section I was currently studying or had just finished studying. Its a fun supplement especially if you're an auditory learner. I enjoyed hearing him read the questions and then shouting out the answers. It was also nice to hear someone reason through answer choices vs just reading them on UWORLD. I actually remember thinking of a couple of his questions/explanations during my exam. I don't know if it should be your main study resource by any means (didn't watch the teaching videos), but its nice to have a voice reinforcing information (again I'm very auditory). There were a few minor errors in the practice questions that didn't completely change the answer, but were just wrong. i.e. an ABG is presented that is improbable. I think if he worked on perfecting those questions and doing more of them… and just having an audio set where he goes over a bunch of practice questions he could have a great product on his hands. Obviously, I would most recommend using your actual study time to do UWORLD and repeating it if necessary… its currently the most bang for your buck time wise.

I just discovered them and am going through them for Step 3. I wish I had them for Step 2 CK. Here are my thoughts.
- They do not add much more information than what you will find in MTB. So if you want more 'facts/information' then this is not what you need. On the other hand I do not advise going looking for more information than what is contained in Uworld/MTB, except to increase your understanding of the concepts.
- It is nice to have a voice reinforcing the material and he is interesting to listen to (some Kaplan lecturers are downright boring, even at higher speeds, the only one I can tolerate is Conrad Fischer)
- Paul Bolin provides a good explanation of some things. Like his infectious disease videos drilled into my mind which antibiotics are needed for what, although that information is given in MTB, the explanations are insufficient. So his explanations help get a good grasp of the material in MTB.
- Some topics I was quite comfortable with so I just skipped through those videos very fast - so you may not need to see all of his videos.
- For Paul Bolins videos I recommend a quick glance through the comments on each of the videos in which users may have pointed out errors and Paul may have replied/clarified.
- You can also leave your own comments on the videos if you find any errors and Paul usually replies if it is a significant one.

This is how I am studying
- I first did one review of the CCS cases in Uworld (I did not do too well in them but it gave me an understanding of what to focus on while studying).
- I am now watching Paul Bolin's videos at the 2x speed setting on youtube. And after completing the playlist on one topic, I read through that chapter in MTB and once I am done with reviewing all the subjects I will do UWorld questions and repeat the Uworld CCS cases once more.

I was actually having trouble finding my 'study groove' till I came across these videos. They are reasonably engaging to keep my study momentum going, he is a good speaker and his videos are very well made. And deep respect for his time and energy and his mission to make this available for free.
