I been reading Financial Aid in the dds forum. It seems to me that you can take out more loan than you need. If say my school only charges $10k per year...I can withdraw up to $27k from Stafford loans per year if I so choose??? I know I'll have to pay it back, but if that's the case than I dont have to worry about how I am going to afford car insurance, etc. I want to buy a new car since my car got stolen but do not want to treat my self to a new accord if I cant make payment for it in dental school (I can pay 1/2 of the car before I matriculate....granted I get in next year.)

Well if your school only charges 10k/year keep in mind you wont be given the option of maxing out the Stafford. The way you get the money is based on the Schools annual budget (Baiscally they inform the government how much they expect the student to spend during that year) and if its less than the entire amount then you won't get the max of your Stafford. This ofcourse isn't set in stone, as you can always talk to the financial aid dept and have your budget increased.

best of luck
