Hi everyone. I was just accepted to UIC COP and was just wondering how you guys are paying for pharmacy school. Are you putting it mostly on loans? Are they federal loans? Did you receive any grant money from the state after filling FAFSA?

Thanks for your help.

All federal loans for most people now thanks to good ole President F*uckhole. Oh, just wait. Since you're in Chicago, you won't have a job when you graduate. Good luck!

Yeah I know, good thing I'm planning on moving away from Chicago upon graduation. So there aren't much in the way of federal grants?

Federal grants (like the Pell) are typically reserved for undergrads. If you want free money, your school is your best resource for scholarships.

Federal Loans are usually enough to cover most of the expenses though, correct? I will need to take out a small (~$500/mo) portion to cover living/fun expenses and am not sure if this all will be covered under subsidized loans. I'll find out next month, but hate the waiting...

Yes, if you need more than that you may want to re-evaluate your spending habits. Of course if you go to a school with a super high tuition/COA it may be harder to avoid private loans.

I used federal loans and I also worked full-time during the summer/breaks and occasionally during the school year. If you can find a well paid internship and have the time to work, it helps a lot! Start networking day one.
