How many schools offer the choice of purely problem based learning as a choice instead of straight lecture. I know West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine does, but are there any others??

Harvard has an "HST" and "New Pathways" program. I believe HST is mostly lecture-based where NP is mostly problem-based. That's about all I know.

I believe Jefferson lets you choose a preclinical curriculum that is mostly lecture- or mostly PBL-based. There are Jefferson peeps around here I know, perhaps they can elaborate.

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine does as well (40 out of 225 students anyway) and the new DO school opening up in Florida 2004 is exlusively PBL.

Everyone at Jefferson does the same thing (and it's not PBL). Perhaps you are thinking of Drexel? I think they have two tracts. But I'm not positive.

Yes, Drexel. My bad.

I got into medical school 3 years ago (class of 2004) when the "trendy" thing was the problem based learning. and you know, after having gone through it, I don't know if it is as good as it was advertised to us. If you really like PBS, go for it. But if I had to do it over again, I would pick traditional (maybe its because the grass is always greener on the other side).
