For some reason, I had thought that post op pain services were bundled into the surgical fee unless the surgeon asks for a consult for something like a block or epidural. In any case, I'm doing the PCA's now. I don't mind it. Gets us out onto the floors and makes us visible. And we're in house 24/7 so if any issue comes up we can deal with it. What are others doing in private practice? Managing some PCA's, all, only if asked?

some commerical insurances will pay for PCAs.....
 
We have a very busy acute pain service. PCA's and PCEA's, probably 50-60 per day at any one time.
