Ok can someone please clear this up for me. I thought the PCAT was for people who were applying for pharmacy as a graduate school. If i want to apply for a 6-Year program I dont need one right? My mom and grandfather saw something on the internet that said that it is recommended to take the PCAT in high school. I am thouroughly confused now. I live in New Jersey and plan to go to Rutgers Pharm. I know and regularly talk to several people who both finished, and are in the school currently. They have NEVER mentioned this test to me. Rutgers is a 6-Year program so you apply straight from High School.

There is no way the PCAT is required, but call the school and get the official word. There are several other 6 year programs and none of them require the PCAT. Good luck.

I was told by an admissions committee member not to take the pcat in highschool. I don't know anyone that took it before their second year of college. There is biology and chemistry sections on the pcat that cover information you learn in college biology and chemistry including organic. It would be a waste of time and money to take in highschool, and chances are that you would do poorly and have extra anxiety when you take it again.

by 6 year program, do you mean 2 years pre-pharm and then you have to apply for pharm school which is 4 years?

bc in that case, you take the pcat during your 2nd year.

Ok thanks guys... I knew that I was right. BTW Wheelsonfire since im going into a 6-Year Program I wont have to take the PCATs ... ever. Well they are talking about making it manditory but atm if you make it into the program (which btw is not easy to get into... they only accept 108 students each year) then you are garanteed a seat in the pharmacy college. But i hear by the time i get there there will be some form of a test you will be forced to take, idk if it will be the PCATs (junior in HS now). Thanks again.

No Vicky336 by 6-Year Program i mean a program which you apply into once you are out of college which is basically 2-Years Pre-Pharm and then 4 Years Pharm... but they are not two seperate things. You do them both at the same college (which is Rutgers in my case) and you dont have to take a test to get into the pharmacy part (which might change as stated above).

There is very little chance that you will get a decent score with just a high school education. I mean no offense by this, only that without organic chem, the chemistry section is impossible. Don't worry, for a 6 year program you aren't expected to take it.
