heh, well aside from the fact that what he's doing is 100% illegal...you could turn narc and turn him in for a boat load of money 😱. However, there is no reason whatsoever that you have to spend 300 dollars for pcat problems. Even if you had all the problems, you would still need to know how to take the test; it's not the problems that are difficult, it's the timing. Given a more lax time limit like the SAT, it's entirely possible to finish every question they give you, but that's not the point of the test. You could practice taking the test with the worst questions ever, and it would be a more accurate gauge of how well you could do because it's the testing conditions that will matter more. I did fine without buying any of that or taking any course; I'm sure many others did just fine on their own. Keep in mind also that the PCAT does measure your own aptitude; if you are going to skew your results just to get in, you're going to find yourself in a lot of stress and pain when you realize that your score doesn't reflect how prepared you ought to be for the school you want to go to. What's the point of getting in just to fail out in a year?

is this for real or just for business?

One, you shouldn't post the same question in about 5 different posts. It makes it hard for us to respond to all of them =).

Two, any PCAT prep class is always in it for the business. The class probably preps you to do well on the exam. However, the methodology is sketchy. If he really is taking exact questions from real exams by paying people to go into the exam and smuggling questions out, that's very illegal. It is entirely possible, however, that he is just that good a teacher.

My point of view on any exam, however, is that if you use your own brain and figure the test out, you will do well on it. You should already have the knowledge, you just have to practice and learn to apply it. That's something money can't ever buy.

As I mentioned above, it's not worth paying $500 to get your score higher to be admitted to an institution only to find out half a year later that you're not passing your classes and are about to get kicked out. Instead, improve your own skills so that you are more prepared to handle the curriculum. Pharmacy school isn't a place where you can just flit around and hope that things work out. You have to challenge yourself with unknown situations and determine the best method to succeed. Figuring out how to do the PCAT on your own is kind of the same situation you'll be facing in pharmacy school.

Now of course, as an applicant, you're probably not going to care about what I said above =P But if your attitude is to take the course thinking you'll get the easy high score just to get into pharmacy school, you'll run into major trouble later.

Many people here on SDN did very well on their PCATs without turning to these expensive courses (myself included). It is entirely possible to score in the high 90s using only a few prep and reference books. It's really up to you. As for total cost of materials, I spent about 50 dollars total. I utilized my library resources to get practice PCAT materials, and only spent money on the Harcourt practice exams.
