Hey guys, I have an interview coming up for PCO in 2 weeks. Do we have to write an essay prior to the interview like other schools? I have an idea of what type of questions they ask after reading lots of posts here. Is there anything else I need to know or how to prepare for this? This is actually my first interview and I'm freaking out. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

They didn't make us write an essay when I interviewed there last week. There's not too much else you need to know -- it's not too stressful, so don't freak out. They are very nice!

Nope, no essay. It was very laid back, and I was really impressed. I thought I was going to be a nervous wreck, but my interviewer was so easy-going it was great. Don't stress too much, just prepare the interview questions that are on this site, and you'll be fine!! Good luck!

The only essays are the questions included in the application. They may ask you to revise some things and be more specific. That happened to me and a few of my fellow students. There are two important things to remember on interview day: 1) be yourself and 2) relax! You've worked hard to get to this point and no use worrying about it.

Hey has anyone gotten an interview at PCO without OAT scores. I have applied to PCO and I won't be taking the OAT till end of November because that is when I'll be ready and I just wanted to know my chances of getting an interview beforehand.

I interviewed without my OAT scores and didn't take the test until about 4 or 5 months after receiving a letter from them asking to schedule an interview. They will not make a final decision regarding acceptance until the scores are sent to them, but they could schedule an interview without them. I think it will just depend on how your application looks without the scores.

Wow 4 or 5 months after! Can I ask you your gpa and anything else that made your app stand out?

My interview was mid-October, and I didn't take the OAT until February. So yes, you can be granted an interview without the scores.

I also have these questions:
1)does PCO expect us to know current news about optometry? such as new regulations, how is the law from Pennsylvania different from California?
2) Do they ask us about stem cell, abortion, how to improve the health care system? These are very controversal ones and I'm a little worry about debating them.
3.) I know that there's a secone interview with open file, what types of questions did they ask?

Thanks! 🙂

I also have an interview with PCO coming up on Nov 6th. I was wondering what kind of questions I should prepare for?

just look at the feedback posted in the interviews section of this website. look at last year's questions and prepare from those. i literally didn't get a question i wasn't expecting....they were all on here or easy to answer.

sorry for the lat reply to your question. my gpa was about 3.5 to 3.6 and I had 5 or 6 good recommendation letters. I don't know what made my application stand out (if it did at all) enough to get an interview request before taking the OAT.

hey hfpepperbean47,

You had to wait until PCO received your OAT scores for you to hear from them the final word if you got accepted or not, right?

Absolutely. I don't think there is any circumstance where they will accept you without the OAT scores. I wasn't accepted until early May last year, nearly a month after the scores were sent.
