Hi! I just received a letter from PCO to schedule a pre-counselling session over the phone. What does this mean? Ive never heard of this before - will they be evaluating me on the phone? Has anyone ever had this before?

Im looking at the date and I think they sent this out before they received my application. Maybe they're just trying to do some recruiting?

chrissystar,

I had a pre-counseling session a little over a year ago where I actually went down to the school. A member of the admissions committee talked to me about what they are looking for, and then we discussed my GPA, extracurriculars, shadowing, etc. to get a feel for what my chances were at the school. I think it was just to get people more interested in the school and to give advice about how to get in. If you already applied, maybe they just made a mistake? Hope this helps 🙂

I'm interested in doing one too with PCO--i'm just slightly intimidated that they'll think that i'm not quite the candidate yet. I'm trying to get my grades up in sciences this semester and the next but i guess it'll be good for some advice on how to be a better candidate...
they probably won't judge you until the actual application comes in, right? HOw helpful was this session? Did it take a long time? Was the cousellor helpful/encouraging?

Thanks~

Hey,

I had a pre-application evaluation over the phone this past summer...I actually had two...one my junior year and one my senior year...and they just pretty much give you advice on what areas you may need to improve and how to make yourself a better candidate...just advice on how to get in...i highly recommend you do it because it actually made me feel a little bit better about applying and not as intimidated as I was...and he gave some good advice

to my understanding..they were not supposed to judge you based on that pre-app evaluation...but...well i dont know for sure! i hope not! but even if so...i think it is a good idea to do it and let them know that you are showing an interest..i'm not sure if they keep record of this..but anyway it shouldnt hurt!
