Hey everyone! PCOM-PA is having an open house this Friday. Is anyone going? Has anyone gone in the past and would like to share their experience and what they liked/disliked about the school?

I recommend going, I went a few years ago. They take down your personal information when you sign up, and when you get to the event they have you sign in. Now I don't know if this plays any role in seeing which students are serious about going to PCOM, but when I applied they were the first ii I received.

Thanks! Do you remember what they did during it besides tours and OMM demonstrations? It's from 4pm-8pm.

Had a similar experience last year.

I had a tour, omm demostration, and information sessions. Financial aids, admissions etc. The dean of admissions talked to us and some people went and asked questions. Good experience and the parking was free! I highly recommend going. Great experience/school.

I went last year as well. It's like interview day without the interview. When asked during my interview why pcom I was able to bring up that I first found out about it through the open house and really liked the school after that experience. Not sure how much it helped but I did end up with an early acceptance from them.

I'm going to be there

I think they have two each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. They definitely had one in November last year but I couldn't go.

Awesome! I thought so too. By the way, is there a flyer or something with more details about the event itself anywhere?

That's good because I committed to a Student Veteran's Association thing on the same day and saw this thread 5 minutes later.

It's a great way to get a feel for the campus ( you will be seeing it at a beautiful time of year too) and get face to face time with admissions talk to students and faculty. Went to it about 3 years ago and it pretty much sparked my interest in making it my number one choice. You don't have to stay the full time there are tours and OMM demos ext running at different times throughout the evening.

That sounds great, looking forward to it!

Also, business casual attire? This is my very first open house at any school.

Really wanted to go... but I live 6 hours away and I have three finals between the following Monday and Tuesday. Maybe another time.

Well don't know if any of you guys made it, but I really enjoyed it. The facilities were very nice and the course schedule seemed nice. I wasn't crazy about the mandatory OMM rotation 3rd year, does anyone know if that is a standard DO school thing?

I enjoyed it a lot too. I almost wish I hadn't liked it so much. It's such a hard school to get into

I agree with @spenguin, I liked it a little too much and I don't think my stats are good enough for them which really sucks. For those who went, what sessions did you guys attend? I attended the OMM demonstration and the Faculty Panel. Also, for being such a nice school they had a really crappy auditorium. I attached some pictures I took for anyone who would like to see more of the small campus and a panoramic of the rooftop courts with center city skyline in the background.

I agree! Such a great experience. My sister came with me and said she loved it too. It's is definitely my #1 choice but I do realize how competitive it is to get in.

Some of the things I really enjoyed was the relaxed and laid back atmosphere, informality of the event, how welcoming faculty and students were, and how organized and beautiful the campus was. The facilities were great. My sister compared it the open houses she used to go to and said that they were always tense and everyone was competitively trying to make an impression on admissions, but at PCOM the vibe was way different. She also said she could tell that the current PCOM students were happy to be there.

Before and afterwards we had time to explore Philly and I can honestly say the city now has my heart.

I know Nova does something similar. I don't think that rotation is a big deal. At least it isn't 4th year.

Great pics. That auditorium looked similar to others I saw during interviews. Campus felt like a park to me. I like it a lot.

I think going to the open house shows interest! They have your name now.

I didn't think the auditorium was crappy. Do you mean the one where they had the faculty panel or the one with admissions panel? The one with the admissions panel was much nicer and that is the one for first years (it seemed new-ish, clean and had extra screens jutting out from the wall for people in the back rows). The faculty panel was in the second year lecture hall.

Your profile pic looks like it might be you. Generally they recommend people don't use their own pics for the profile pic. I'm not sure how it could hurt if you are always respectful on here but that is what people say to do.

I had Nicole she was pretty good. Laid back and very open to any questions.

BTW you didn't show it but the athletic center was very nice for a medical school. The 76ers practice there.

The Sixers move to their new practice facility in Camden next year.

Are the Sixers moving next season or the season after? This article says summer of 2016, but it is a couple of years old.

The owner Josh Harris announced they'd be using the new facility before the 2016-17 season on April 15, 2015.
