Hello Guys,
I am interviewing at PCOM and UMDNJ SOM and wanted to know more about the cities of Philadelphia and Stratford with reference to the cost of living and the mass transit systems. Any info would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Keith

UMDNJ is in south jersey. The area is very laid back and suburban. There are some more rural towns surrounding stratford and it is about 2 hours away from NYC (driving). Its 15 minutes from philly. The town is nice, not too busy, the campus is really nice and everything is pretty laid back. The cost of living in NJ is so-so (6% sales tax- none on clothes, food, or shoes/ 3% in urban enterprize zones)- rent in south jersey is way lower than in the north(~$650/ month- for a 1br in a nice area).

PCOM is in philadelphia- the area near the campus is nice, but some of the surrounding areas in philly are pretty run down (for example the area near temple university). PCOM's campus is really nice. The rent in philladelphia is about the same an NJ except the cost of living in pennsylvania as a whole is cheaper... but remember philly is a city, so the costs are a little higher there than in the rest of the state.

if looking for an apt. go to www.homehunters.com-- you can search by location near a college.

i hope i answered your questions feel free to PM me if you have any other NJ questions.
