This question is for current PCO students:

Did any of you attended the Summer Enrichment Program at PCO? If you did, do you think it was helpful? Please share your experience(s).

Thank you for your responses.

I didn't attend that program but I know someone in the year below me who did. Is that the program for students who need to take certain classes before they start first year and if they pass then they can start classes in August?

Hi Christie,

This program is totally optional and it is designed for disadvantaged students as well as for first generation college graduates ( which I am). I guess its purpose is to help students make a better transition into the optometric curriculum.

Students will be taking mini-courses in the biological sciences including anatomy, biochemistry, theoretical optics, etc. It will run for six weeks, from M-F from 8-5p.m and 5 hrs on each weekend days.

Apparently the program seems very rigorous. Is it going to be as this rigorous once optometry starts, Christie? If so, I really need to build up my mentality so that I'd prepared.

If you know anything about it. Please let me know. Thanks!

Hey NYC,

I got the same application for the PCO summer enrichment program. It IS extremlely rigorous and I am debating back and forth about doing it myself. Let me know what you decide.

Hey LoveRene,

I have decided not to take part in it b/c I need the summer time to take care of other things.

I guess this program is suggesting that the optometric curriculum is not as easy as people think and we should be well-prepared. If you participate in it, I think it may help to modify your studying skills/habits, but if you think you don't need to, then you might want to use the summer time for something else.

Let me know what you decide also.

Is this program offered to students who are entering their first year of opt school to take the summer before they enter? Or is it for students who are interested in applying to opt school?
