For all you 3rd years out there - Part of our
requirements for 2nd year include a PDA.
I've talked to a few upperclassmen at our
school and the universal recommendation
is a PDA/Phone unit.

Anyone have recommendations about
PDA standalaone vs PDA/Phone? Also,
any recommendations in terms of capabilities,
etc. that you wish you had purchased?

Just gathering info. I'm not a 'wow, look at
the new tech toy' type. I had to be forced
into getting a computer in my home in the 90s
and am not a gadget freak, just get me the gear
to get the job done.....

Obviously not a 3rd year, but I have used PDAs for business for years. I had been a dedicated Palm OS guy, but the recent Microsoft platform stuff has pulled ahead IMO. I am currently using a Samsung Blackjack which comes with Windows Mobile 5.0. If has a SD micro slot that will accept 2GB cards and will link to a PC via a high speed USB port. I've been pleased with it and there is even a scaled down version of the office suite that can be utilized so you can handle excel, ppt, etc along with whatever med specific downloads you want to carry.

I'm seriously not trying to be a tool, but seriously, try heading over to the Technology forum, they've got some GREAT threads on this topic!
