Anyone get a pda when you went to dental school. I have heard of some pharmacy schools requiring them but don't know if dental schools do or not. If so which ones do you suggest?

Let me tell you that the PDA I purchased as I entered clinic during the D3 year was the single most useless thing I have ever purchased. I bought about a $200 Palm. I used it for about 2 months to look up drugs on epocrates until I realized the few drugs of importance in dentistry could more easily just be memorized without the "crutch" of Epocrates to slow you down.

I also used it for about 6 more months to play video games during lecture: 'Drug Wars' was a personal favorite, as was 'Monopoly'. For the past 2 years it has sat here on my desk collecting dust.

The funniest thing is that about 10 people in my class dropped like $500 - 600 for the top of the line Wi-Fi or Bluetooth models, and they used them about as much as me. Sure, they pretended like "they couldn't live without it", but seriously, how many times does a dental student need to check their email while walking down the hall? Never.

If you buy a PDA, appreciate it for what it is - an unnecessary status symbol. If having one makes you happy, buy one. But I would recommend a set of golf clubs instead. Or some skis.

I was worried about what PDA I was going to buy prior to school as well. I ended up making the right choice and not buying one. What I do is simply sync my contacts and calendars with my ipod- its much easier, cheaper and gets the job done well.

That's a good idea. I do use my PDA a lot, but it's really just to keep my patient schedule and contacts. I like the ipod idea.

Personnally I dont like to see too much PDA at school. Save it for the bedroom.

Nice, some high school humor... ...isnt this a forum for professional graduate students?

That would be considered highschool humor...unless you had to go to my school and sit in back of the fools making out during class. Seriously, never thought I'd see it, and then it happened, every day, for the past six months.

All I can say is wow... ...I feel for you... sounds like a serious group of students!

The Palm TX Handheld I got on after Thanksgiving sales, is now given to my kids palying games and listening to songs. It's very useless, in my opinion. Can't type and scribble fast/accurately, many features and files unsupported by Microsoft Windows, etc.😡

I just got a Palm XT and after 2 days of playing with it I think I might return it back and get a Treo 750/680 (can't decide)

You must have cingular? I would go with the 680. I have the 700 with sprint and I love this thing. Hell, I figured after the 600 series what else could you add to this thing. I figure they will be up into the 1000 series by this time next year. I also own a tungsten C and this thing is a waste also, it was one of the 500 dollar ones that the other guy was talking about. Anyways, it has the keyboard and wifi, but the screen is to small and all websites do not have PDA format, but SDN does.
