PDL thickness question

On one dental deck it mentions that the PDL is thin in areas of tension and in another it states that the PDL is the thickest in the areas of tension. What is true? I thought I was thickest in the area of maximum occlusal but opposite for areas with tension. Am i right?

^It's the widest at the areas of more functional movement of the tooth (ie, at apex and cervix of root, about 0.3mm) while the shortest (only 0.12mm) in the axis of rotation in the middle inbetween the cervix and the root apex. I'm really not sure what you mean by "tension" though.

I assume tension is the area of the pdl that is transmitting the non vertical force. Anyway thanks for your input. Is anybody else frustrated over the decks seemingly often mistakes?
