I am interested in pediatrics and I was wodering how long of a residency you have to do before you can practice on your own? Also does anyone know if it is the same for D.O.?

I don't know if Canada is different than the US, but here it's 5 years.

Peds is only a three year residency in the US, but it's an additional 3 years if you want subspecialty training such as neonatology, peds cardiology/nephrology/etc.

yes, it's the same for DO's...a peds residency is 3 years regardless of your degree. A fellowship will take three years as well, allopathic or osteopathic
