I have searched many sites to find out a real pediatrician salary. there are so many out there how do I know which one is the real deal? I have come across anywhere from 60,000-300,000. I am a 4th year now who I applying for peds, and I am not doing it for the money, obviously, but I really do want to know what I can expect as far as salary goes.. Is there some kind of salary site that is credible? How can I find this out?🙁🙁

You could try http://www.pedjobs.org/.

It's the AAP's job website, so I presume it's fairly reliable.

The salary will vary by specialty, location, hours, other compensation etc. If you could give us a sense of what area of peds you think you might be interested in (e.g. primary care/outpatient vs. NICU vs. hospitalist) and what area of the country, people might be able to give you a better idea. Generally, I think most starting salaries will fall in the $100-$200k range tops.

Also, I know there are other threads in this forum about salary as well.

I have seen a few different websites in the past with salary estimates, but never looked at that one (which should have good data that I paid the gov't to collect!).

Thanks for the link.

Fun to look at the salaries for PA/RT/RN/OT's, etc. also.

I guess if you want to be a general pediatrician and make as much as possible, you should live in....Iowa?! Am I reading that right?

Yup, that's the thing. I have a couple classmates who went into rural practice. They did so because that's where they grew up and it's the type of community they love, but they are getting paid significantly more than those who stayed closer to a city or peds center. They are also receiving some amount of debt repayment.

But their jobs are hard work. You can't just send a kid to the ED because the EM attending there is going to call and ask for your advice. If they want to send a patient to a subspecialist, it usually involves them driving significant distances, so they are handling more things on their own or through phone consults.

On the whole they say they love it, but the experience has made them realize how different peds is from other specialties and who uncomfortable other people are around kids.
