I'm sure this question has been addressed before, but what is the overall feeling with regards to a second year medical student and pediatric research? I'm very interested in pediatrics and would like to buff up my CV - but I'm wondering if doing some sort of research would help or not. Any input or ideas would be helpful

Research is always a good CV buff, especially if you find something that interests you. Get involved. The area doesn't matter so much, so I'd suggest going to the program director or clerkship director of the peds program at your medical school. Ask if they can direct you to someone who might want some help doing research and ask what's available. Visit that person and ask what it would entail, what kind of project you'd be doing. Don't be afraid to keep looking or pass it up if it doesn't interest you. Better you do something well with something you like. Many places have some scholar projects and things like you can get involved in.
