Can u look at study materials during scheduled breaks? I know they say u can't bring study material into testing area, but don't u leave the testing area during a scheduled break? Also can u leave and get food during a scheduled break? Like from a cafe next door? R u allowed to have study material at the prometric office in general?

I'm asking because I'll be pumping and so my breaks are long and I'd like to look at notes while pumping

Thanks!!

I honestly can't remember if you can leave the test center but I want to say yes. Generally though they don't give you sufficient time to go anywhere meaningful. I want to say 15 minutes breaks and a 30 minute lunch. You could probably bring materials to the test center and store them in the locker they give you while you take the test. However I would not necessarily recommend that approach. The chances you would study anything of use during those breaks is exceptionally low and would not change the outcome of the test. You either know it or you don't at that point. And there is something to be said giving your mind a break.

That makes sense. I do have extended time because I am pumping, so I have 30 min extra per break to pump so maybe while I pump I would read?

I wouldn't risk disqualification. Straight from the ABP email (in case you missed it)

"• You are not permitted to access any study material or discuss the examination when taking breaks during an active examination session. This includes access through any verbal communication, electronic means (eg, smartphones, cellular phones, Internet), or written material. Communication at any time with anyone for the purpose of giving or receiving information about the examination content is reason to terminate or invalidate your examination, or for the ABP to take other action under the ABP’s Honor Code. The use or possession of any device that may compromise the integrity of the examination in any way (eg, cameras, scanners, smartphones, mobile phones) is absolutely forbidden, and such use or possession during the examination will result in disqualification."

That quote is specifically from the section talking about unscheduled breaks which are different as the test is still running and you can go back and answer questions you have already seen. That section also talks about not accessing your locker and in order to pump or eat lunch or anything people do need to access their locker during scheduled breaks.

they actually told me that we were allowed to access notes during scheduled breaks but the language on the ABP site is admittedly a little vague (they use "active examination session" and "unscheduled break" and I think they mean the same thing but its not definitive)

It worked out with me getting extra time for pumping. I didn't go through any notes just cause I was too brain tired, but I think they would have allowed it

i've been confused by this for years. I was told I could but I read the language in the bulletin when taking fellowship boards and I feel like it says you can't.
