I'm an incoming pgy1 in peds and I just completed a peds derm elective. I didn't anticipate that I would love it as much as I did and now I'm having second thoughts. I love peds! And I am happy that I am starting a peds residency, but is there potential to become a peds dermatologist without completing a derm residency? Is there a fellowship option? All of the information I'm finding on this seems to be from the early 2000's and I feel a little uncomfortable speaking to my advisors about this at this point. Any advice/options would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure there's not.

A guy in the residency i matched at is pretty adamant on peds derm and i have chatted with him quite a bit. he says the peds residency to term residency is the only option if you didn't start with a derm residency.

We had a member of my class do intern year as a peds resident, then match into Derm and subsequently trade residencies. She considered doing two years of peds (since she had a gap year between the end of intern year and the start of her Derm residency), but chose to do research during that time instead.

I guess she'll be a great candidate for a peds derm fellowship.
