Peds EM

Definitely considered it...starting peds residency next month. My only concern is that, I think, peds EM limits you in terms of where you can work. Most Peds EM docs work at academic centers...not sure if that is where I want to be. 🙂

I am not sure whether to be a pediatritian and then work in the er or go with a combined residency. I really liked the Arizona dual program however I have worked at oakland childrens and like the area and if I were to go just with a peds residency, i would go there. As an emerging field, peds patients do require trained specialists in the ER. Spealing from the patients perspective, I was in a severe car accident as a child and was taken to oakland childrens (the receiving peds trauma center for alameda county). Although er docs are fully competant to handle peds emergencies, if it were ur child, wouldn't you want someone who specializes in the treatment of children?
