i think most folks would agree that the following are well-regarded programs:
columbia, sinai, montefiore, cornell, nyu, and jacobi
each have different strengths and weaknesses, and ultimately, most people end up ranking those programs based on how they get along with the residents and attendings. my impressions from interviewing:
columbia - very strong academically (especially cardio/PICU), broad exposure, but some feel that the residents are overworked (a ton of their time is spent Q4)
sinai - very collegial atmosphere, strong in GI
montefiore - considered a rising program, charismatic PD
cornell - strong onc from time spent at memorial sloane-kettering
nyu - broad exposure between bellevue (public) and tisch (private)
jacobi - on the small side, strength is primary care
i know there are other strong ny programs, but these are the only ones i am familiar with.
