Hey Everyone! I'm currently a 4th year and about to start the application process. I'm looking for some input about how competitive of an applicant I am / what would be some 'reach' residencies for me. I'm not even sure what residencies are considered "top tier" in the northeast area -- besides CHOP and Hopkins. Pretty much, I'm feeling a little lost and overwhelmed with researching residencies .. and I'm not really sure where I stand as an applicant.

A little about me:
I'm a DO Student, currently ranked first in my class
USMLE Step 1: 257, Step 2: 254
COMLEX 1: 687, 2:817
--> I know these facts look great, which I'm proud of .. but, I do not have any type of research background / no publications or anything. I did some research in college, but never authored or was included in a paper.
I'm a member of SSP (equivalent of AOA)
I've done a good amount of volunteer work
I'm pretty sure that I want to be a general pediatrician -- but I'm not positive yet

Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

I would say go for it. Your scores will get you interviews a ton of places. I'm not sure how DO friendly most of the "top tier" programs are, but it can't hurt to try applying to them! The real clincher will be your letters, from what I'm told. Research isn't as heavily emphasized in pediatrics, though it's a nice plus.
