To do a rotation at another medical school, does it have to be an elective. I know during the third year at my school we have to do Peds and Surgery, etc., but we only get one elective in the summer. Do most schools let you do your required Peds rotation at an institution you think you want to attend residency at? I know I should ask my school and I will, but was curious if anyone on here had any insight. Thanks!

Our school is very flexible about elective rotations, and in some cases will allow an away rotation to serve as one of our four acting internships (medicine, inpatient, ambulatory, surgery) during 4th yr. I've never known anyone to do clerkships (i.e. 3rd yr rotations) anywhere but one of our three campuses. Is there a reason you want to do a clerkship vs. an elective or AI? I would think you'd want to have done your Peds clerkship before you go to "audition" somewhere.
