I was wondering, what are the range of scores to get a pediatric residency? Are many programs very competitive? I know there are usually spots left open but I'm guessing they are at hospitals/locations no one wants to be at.

At the top programs (CHOP, Boston, Cincy) a good score (say above 225, but I'm basing that on hearsay) can help. Even at the top programs however, Peds isn't really a score-heavy specialty. The other aspects of your application, your interview/LOR's/personality, will play an important role. So beyond failing a Step, I don't think any score, would absolutely shut you out of those places.

That being said, there are numerous very good Peds progams. As long as you are slightly geographically open minded you'll do fine. Even if you are focusing on 2 or 3 locations, I'm sure you'll find a great place.

Do your best, but unless you're dead-set on a big name, don't spend too much time stressing about scores.

I'm am planning on attending Ross, will I be at a disadvantage coming from an international school? Also, will I have any chance in getting into a top program even if I have the grades/scores?

I'm a U.S. grad, so what I say is mostly conjecture. With strong grades and scores, you should have a fighting chance at some of the best U.S. programs. On the interview trail I found that most schools had a few FMGs, in some cases they actively sought them to make their resident pool more interesting. However, I'm talking about 5-10 out of 100+ residents, so it certainly seems more of a challenge. I imagine that PDs are more comfortable with grads from programs with which they are familiar, i.e. U.S. programs. There's also the question of why you're going to Ross instead of a U.S. program. (This is mostly rhetorical, and I'm not questioning your performance, choice, etc. But where does Ross stand in the grand scheme, how does it compare?) My best advice would be for you to arrange some visiting electives at your top 2-3 choices so they can get to know you and you can set yourself above the crowd, plus you could get LORs from U.S. programs. Best of luck.

Yes

i'm going to assume you meant do you have a chance of getting into top programs coming from ross even if you have the grades/scores. Yes, you still have a chance but it will be more difficult.

P.S. I went to ross but transferred to a US school so i've seen both sides of the fence.
