Nelson's is THE textbook to use, but it doesn't make for quick reading up
on your patients. But if you want to learn about the pathophys of whatever
is going on with your patients, that's what I would use.
For quicker reading up on diagnosis and treatment, I would use Current Pediatric
Diagnosis and Treatment published by Appleton and Lange.
I've heard "Pediatrics Secrets" is good, but I've never used it. It's
arranged in question-and-answer by subspecialty format.
And for the floor, I would either carry your Harriet Lane, or make sure there's
one on the wards and ER.

Definately get Harriet Lane, it should be like your bible while on the boards
I have used the "Pediatric Secrets" book and it is actally pretty good! It's a different style text to get used to but easy reading because the text is arranged in question in answer format...supposedly this book is good for "pimp" questions. each section is arranged in different disciplines. for example, there is a neonatology section, ER section, cardio, adolescent medicine, etc. When I did NICU, i read that specific section and when i do peds ER i will read that sections as well!
Blueprints is also another book to get for your leisure reading since it will give you a good overview (esp if it's a general wards subI) and it will be good review for the boards...
