I matched in pediatrics, and I'm starting my internship in July. However, I loved my last rotation (in radiology), and I've decided to try to switch into radiology, hoping to land a spot at a program that has an opening to start in 2007.

I'm wondering whether, if I find programs to apply to for a position starting in 2007, will I have to go through the same ERAS and interview process? Do I need to request vacation time intern year during Nov/Dec/Jan (in order to interview)?

Does anyone have experience with switching residencies?

Thanks for your input.

A good friend of mine just switched from peds to rads. He applied through ERAS and during one of his interviews was offered a job right there on the spot. So, yes, I think the best way to do this is to go through ERAS. You will need to take some time off for interviews though, but your program should be understanding.
