The list looks like a cut/paste from the valuemd site.

But it doesn't make sense that UT-Houston is unmatched and only offered 3 spots. They offer 18-20/yr. Not sure what is up with that...

I think those are prelim spots, not categorical spots.

The surg #s included prelims.... There were 7 categorical spots open, 1 of those was plastics... so there was a roughly 1044/1050 fill rate for gen surg, at 99.4+% filled. Hard to get much more competitive than that.

Ummm.... first of all over-sensitive one, I am and have been married to a surgeon for a long time and because of that I am familiar with the surgeon ego and the need to feel super-special. If you do that by taking care of people, fine. If you do it by constantly correcting others and emphasizing how all-important surgeons are, then Get OVER yourself. The prelim positions are an integral part of surgery programs because their blood is necessary to run the programs, especially in the new 80 hour era. You better hope wherever you go they fill their prelim spots with someone, else your tail is toast.

Now go back to your gunner forum with your need to correct people.

First off, I'm far from a gunner-type. I'm just thanking my lucky stars I matched w/ the amount of competition this year. And yes, my plan is to take care of people -- and if i correct people in the process, so be it.

Anyhow, congratulations to you all.
