Hi everyone,

I am attending UPenn next Fall and will be totally new to Philadelphia. I was wondering if anyone had any information on housing options. I have checked out the school's website for both on and off-campus housing, but if anyone has any information from personal experience about living in Philadelphia, I would really appreciate it. If I live off campus, I would like to live within walking distance or perhaps a 5-10 minute drive to the school. Does anyone know which neighborhoods to check out, avoid, etc.? I would like to spend no more than ~$700 rent on a studio/one-bedroom apt. if possible.

Also, if anyone has any information about the on-campus Dental House (other than the basics indicated on their pamphlet), I would really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot!

The area immediately around Penn is not the best for living. Living in the downtown/shopping district is safe, but expensive ($700-$1200 and $700 being a studio)...but that is not expensive compared to other cities. Outside the city (about 20 min drive) you can get good housing at a decent price).

I will be living about 2 min. walk from Penn dental school next year. It is in the 700$ range and the place is great. If you look early you can find a great apt. for a good price. The neighborhood within a two block radius of the dental school is safe-you do have to use some common sense though.. I have been at Penn for the past three years and have never had any problems. There are scattered cases in which students leave doors open and a laptop is stolen-but nothing worse. I LOVE west philly!

Is there anyone looking into living in the International house. I am planning to live there in my first year.
