Penn State 'continuing to review'

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got a continue to review letter, but haven't gotten an interview (yet--the letter came last week). I tried doing a search on this, but not a whole lot of info came up. why don't we list our stats so when/if we get interviews, other folks will have an idea. Mine: 26, 3.6.
Good luck to you! 🙂

I got the "continue to review" letter about two weeks after my file was complete and I haven't heard anything since then (it's been about a month). Stats: 28, 3.75

I might be wrong but I was told that the 'continuing to review' letter is pretty much an early rejection letter. I applied 2 years ago to Penn State, got the 'continuing to review' letter, and found out (I don't remember the source) that very rarely do anyone on the 'continue to review' list receive an interview.

I am reapplying to Penn State this cycle and my interview is in mid Jan. When I scheduled my interview, the admissions officer warned me that the class fills up early Spring and that the later I push my interview date (I was hoping to interview after FEB), the better the chance I am interviewing for a spot on the waitlist. Thus, Penn State sends out enough initial interview invites to fill the class. Another evidence that 'continuing to review' = early rejection.

Again, I might be wrong. Just my $0.02

That's disheartening. Thanks for the info though...
Hopefully us SDNers will be the few that do in fact get invites even after receiving the masked rejection letter!
good luck all!

You know, I am really baffled that some of you didn't get an interview. I was complete there on 11/1 and got offered an interview on 11/16.

In and of itself, that isn't that interesting, however here are my stats:

BCPM: 3.0
UGPA: 3.23
GGPA: 4.0
MCAT: 28 (BS: 12 PS/VR: 8)
State of residence: Ohio

Clearly, not the best stats. And, before you ask, I am not a URM. In fact, I am a caucasian male.

Crap shoot I tell you.

Anyways, my interview is 12/13...I'm pretty excited

Buckeye, you and me are both baffled-> Complete 7/16, Continue to Review 8/31 Nothing since. However, I do know several med students at PSU who did recieve the "Continue to Review" and were granted interviews....in March. They obviously did end up getting in.

Undergrad 3.0
Grad:3.5
MCAT: 31
While I am sure my LORs are not red flags, I can not say the same for my committee letter. 🙁 Good luck on your interview Buckeye!

I got an e-mail from PSU saying that they want a letter from my undergrad stating that I am in good standing and that I actually received a degree. Did you guys have to do this? I find it strange because no other schools have asked for this and it seems redundant since AMCAS verifies your transcripts anyway. Institutions don't send out transcripts for students who aren't in good standing (as far as I know) and the fact that I received a degree is clearly stated on the transcript itself.

I had to do the same thing for a grad program. All I did was call the department my program was administered through and have the program head mail a letter to the PSUCOM admissions director stating that I was in good standing during my time in the program and that I graduated with a GPA of X.

I am in the contine to review category as well. So far, it is the most positive news I have received. Still waiting for some interview invites. Here are my stats:

3.62 CGPA (3.6 non science, 3.63 science)
3OQ MCAT (11P, 8V, 11B)
Canadian applicant

I'm also in the continue to review category and strongly leaning towards withdrawing my application from this school as well. 🙄

I was placed on continuing review on 11/29 and have been complete since 9/1.. I think they lost my application for a while! ha ha

30S
3.74 GPA

Oh Well............. 🙄

I just interviewed at Penn State. I was surprised to get an interview so early on (back in early october). My stats are:

GPA: 3.77
MCAT: 28R
Pennsylvania resident

I am sure the residency thing helped a lot. After interviewing there, it really seems like Penn state cares a lot about what kind of person you are. Maybe that is why I've had success with them so far. I've had a lot of volunteer experience and am pretty well rounded. I am not a URM.

I'm in this category, and I'm a PA resident. I guess they just really didn't like my GPA.

Anyone in this category heard any news lately??

Emily

Not me... That's not looking good. 🙁

not a peep here either. Oh Penn State -- why do you mock me?!

Yepper- received the invite Christmas Eve- Date is at the end of Jan. Actually received the invite a week after I sent the update letter.

A few weeks after I submitted my secondary, I got an e-mail saying that they didn't have my LORs and a letter from my undergrad verifying my degree. The LORs had already been sent, but I figure they just hadn't processed them yet. So I called my undergrad and had them send the degree verification. A few weeks pass and I get another e-mail from Patrick saying that they don't have one of my letters. Since all my letters were mailed together in one packet this seemed strange (*cough* PSU lost it *cough*). I have ordered the LOR to be resent, but I am still waiting for PSU to process it.

It is disheartening that all this back and forth has chewed up so much time that I'll be lucky to interview for a spot on the waitlist.

hi everyone

this is my very first post here (i just recently started reading these boards after weeks of compulsively checking interview feedback to see if people are interviewing at the schools I applied to.)

yes, I got that letter from PSU November 20, and I haven't heard anything. Out of all the people from my undergrad school that applied there, I'm the only one that got that letter, so I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. my MCAT was 27P and 3.91 gpa. I'm also from PA.
