Heard about a resident being fired from this program a few years back after he was given a poor evaluation in his PGY-2 year. He was made to do the PGY-3 year with the expectation that both years would be accredited; but then was asked to leave without certification of both years. He ended up calling a lawyer but still had to go to New Zealand to do IM there.

Any comments??

Whats this? No comments?? Surely there is someone from Penn state who can shed light on this.

I guess thats the way it goes.........lets all keep mum about this..........that way we dont get our a**es kicked.

Whoa, you didn't even give it a full day.

I interviewed here. They told me he had multiple issues, not just poor evaluation. Bombing RITE's every year and so forth...This is what they told me so thats what I have to go on. Everyone else there is doing well it seems, the residents seem happy so this seems like a fluke. Im not sure about the details though. It did not seem like a malignant program actually the opposite, like a friendly environment. This is just my interview impression.

Dont know about his RITE scores & performance but I have known him as a PGY-1 & he did well on the IM RITES. He was not a shirker at work either though he could get argumentative.

The story goes he had asked at the program about their Q4 call throught all 3 yrs of neurology.

Still, why did they ask him to do a second year before firing him, after having told him that they would certify both years? Just fire him straight out of the PGY-2 yr instead of exploiting him.

But then I just have second hand information.
