Anyone else receive this letter via snailmail? Any real chances for an interview still?

Got one in the mail today too. What a day of ups and downs for me. First thing this morning, opened my email and noticed I got an interview invite to Albert Einstein, then tonight finding out that I got rejected from NW Feinberg and put on hold at Penn State.

From what I saw in old threads, putting on hold doesn't look too good. I wanted to go there too. Heard a lot of good things about them.

Actually, I really didn't want to go there. It was just to maximize my chances for acceptance. I'm a city boy at heart, plus, a homo, so being in the country in PA wasn't my top choice. Not really that disappointed. But I wouldn't mind having another interview in this crap shoot process.

That's great. At least you're not too disappointed. I have a few friends who are homosexual applying too. Haha, i'm a city boy too, grew up in SF.

Well, good luck with everything else and hopefully this horrific process will end soon when we get accepted somewhere.

when did you guys submit your secondary? trying to gauge when i'll receive my notice. :-/

I got a letter from Penn State in the mail telling me that I've been put on hold...then again, I am in the Georgetown SMP so my progress is pending as I continue to complete coursework here and send out grades...

Careful about Penn State --

I was talking the other day to an internal medicine resident who graduated from Pritzker, but did her first two years at Penn State. She says there aren't enough spots for third year students to do their clerkships in Hershey, so some had to go as far as Columbus, Ohio to get their clerkships done. This meant to most people living for weeks out of a car (or a hotel if you want to spend the money) and being estranged from friends because it's definitely too far to drive every day. So, don't worry so much about the hold thing -- many med schools are judged not on their first two years, but on the third and fourth year clerkships, and it doesn't sound like Penn State excels in that area.

yep, i got that letter too. I am a PA resident too and got interviews from most of the other PA schools already. I was just like..whattt? Maybe it was my emphasis of my preference for an urban environment in my personal statement. Hershey must be a crappy place to live...

i was put on hold for an interview at penn state (2 application cycles ago) didnt hear anything from them for months, got an interview invite (by phone) in march, was put on hold again post-interview, and then was accepted in june. so while hold isnt necessarily a bad thing, it can be the more torturous path down the road to acceptance. the hospital is very nice and its a great school but hershey is a really depressing place....especially if you are used to city life. i, personally, could not handle it and ended up declining my acceptance.

Having lived in Hershey for almost 4 years I can tell you that it is really not depressing. If you are used to NYC then it will be a big adjustment but it really is a nice place to live.

*sigh*
adding my name to the hold list

sorry i started a new thread on this before i found this...

but i got put on hold too

good luck everyone

Just wondering...did anyone ever see a message like this on the Penn State status webpage, and did it change when your LORs were received? (or was this the last message you saw before learning of the hold or interview status):

"Our records indicate that your Secondary Application has been received, but it has not been determined whether your application is complete or not at this time. Once that determination has been made, you will be notified via email."

I think that my LORs should have made it by now, but I'm not sure if the term "Secondary Application" includes the letters.

Thanks in advance, J

I had this message too. "Secondary App" doesn't include LORS. Once they received my LORs, it changed to "your app is currently under review" or something along those lines.

Add me to the growing list of those "in continuation." Bastards. I did research at University Park for a summer. Surely that's gotta translate into an automatic acceptance or something.

please clarify something for me...

so penn state sending letters for 1. hold for interview and 2. for "continue for review" category????

I'm in the 'continue to review category' 🙁

Just to clarify, I am also in the "continue to review" category.

aren't "on hold" and "continue to review" practically the same thing? what's the difference between the two?

I think that the "continuing review" just translates to a pre-interview hold. It's just a 'logical assumption' on my part though.
I got the snail mail too, I was certain it was a rejection, hope it turns out better! I love the medical humanities program, it has an immense amount of promise especially since my mother is a clinical social worker, I have heard alot about many of the issues in the program.
