Hey guys,
I have a quick question. We got our scores the other day, but there was no corresponding percentile. All I got was a % correct. So could anyone,i.e. our statistician BKN, tell me what an 89% for an EM1 means. Thanks.

i got an 85% and was told that was 95th %ile and i'm also an EM1, so go from there, congrats!

I don't want to become the source. Your PDs all have this and probably will give you the number on request.

While we're on the subject, can someone tell me what a 99% means? Thanks

It means either you missed 99% of the questions, or you're bragging.

I was wondering about this as well, what does a 100% convert to? I mean in terms of percentile?

Okay, maybe i'm just naive or uninformed.....Now granted, my program has our scores, but haven't given them to us yet, so i'm really speaking cluelessly.

But, i have a hard time believing that EM-1's are scoring around 90% or greater (barring the obvious jokers on the thread) only because i'm pretty sure our program director told us that the correlation for passing the REAL EM boards was greater than 90% if you scored greater than a 75% on the inservice?! is this right?

in that case are the EM boards just that easy or could these EM-1's have passed the real EM boards by february of their first year? seriously?

So, if the abem inservice is supposed to gauge your readiness to take the real EM boards how is it that an EM-1 who's 6 months out of medical school should be able to ace the EM boards?

just curious, because I imagine we'll have a bunch of people posting their 85-95% on the inservice as EM-1's and 2's.

shoudn't EM-1's be scoring in the 60's or 70's their first year?

Again, haven't received our scores yet, so maybe our whole program rocked the inservice as well, but that wouldn't make sense.

You should remember that Radiohead is somewhat of a freak genious 🙂 I personally have very little doubt that he could pull an 89% on the test.

The funny part is that next year were supposed to show improvement !!

Couple reasons. I do think that SDN does have skewed numbers, maybe its because we want to one up each other, or that perhaps those that peruse SDN are also higher achievers naturally. I mean, who posts on an EM forum unless you have a keen interest in the field and like to discuss EM topics outside of work.... meaning you like what you do (and are better at it).

And, honestly, hte written boards weren't that tough.

Yeah, but Tyson is a much better wakeboarder than I am, which was on display today.

Wasn't the highest score reported for an EM1 a 94% on the handout they gave us. I say that as only making a lowly 81, which using the standard deviations they gave us makes me like around 89%th. And yes, my penis is bigger than those other 88%, just to clarify. (But, wait that makes it smaller than those other 12%, dammit.) LOL.

Best Wishes,

The Mish
