I just completed my interview season, and never faced any sort of discrimination to my face (no surprise). That said, obviously many programs did not extend interviews to me because i'm an IMG, but that's totally understandable. I think in pediatrics they are more open to IMGs simply because the competition from AMG's is a lot less. It makes perfect sense to me though.. taking AMGs over IMGs is a safer bet since you never really know how solid a foreign medical school's education is. Considering that AMGs generally have no trouble whatsoever obtaining a pediatric spot, I'd ASSUME that the frustration you mention does not really exist.
If you have a strong application however, you should definitely get plenty of interviews, and the rest is up to you. I received over 30 interviews, granted many at institutions that primarily take IMGs, but at some not-so-IMG-friendly programs too. Take home point: Work hard and you'll get the chance.
