Ol Zip likes 26 G peribulbar needle, 7/8", inferotemporal ,1 injection, 4cc of 0.75% marcaine and 4cc 4% lidocaine with smidgen of hyaluronidase. Versed 2mgs and fentanyl 50 mikes and propofol 30-50 mgs IV for sedation prior to block. Produces good akinesis and analgesia. What say you? ---Zippy

i say you're lucky you have an optho team who lets you do it/

Similar techniques here, but we've all but abandoned doing the eye blocks for surgeons - the risks (from a financial/legal standpoint) outweigh the benefits. If the eye docs want them here, they have to do their own.

Of course 99% of cataracts are easily done with topicals anyway. Most of our vitreoretinal stuff is done with general anesthesia or MAC/eye block.

We dont do those blocks either. The optho team does the block and we provide MAC. Do you guys do these alot in private practice?

We do them under topical anesth and MAC. At my previous gig the surgeons did them if they wanted them but I think they did topical also.

ZIPPYS IN FLORIDA!!! Yet another piece of the puzzle trying to identify this esoteric anesthesiologist....

Hey Zip, how close are you to Bradenton, the city where I grew up?

How close are you to Fort Myers, where a buddy of mine is raking in Blow-Like cash?

Back in the old days use to go to the laser light show in various altered states to watch/hear Pink Floyd. Bradenton was a great city back then. ---Zip
