Periodic Table Precipitation

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Why I am asking is b/c Q bank had a question where one of the answer choices stated

"Calcium & Magnesium precipitate in elemental form to leave a white residue." This answer choice is false.

Well, calcium and magnesium do not precipitate in elemental form b/c they are most stable as positively charged ions. Like all alkaline earth metals they prefer to be in a +2 oxidation state.

Alkaline earth metals do not precipitate in elemental form. Is this info that we need to know?

Ions will not spontaneously be ejected out of solution unless they can form a solid precipitate. I think this is obvious enough that this is not what the question is asking.

Need more context =/
