Ever since I was younger, I never took school seriously. I always wanted to, and always told myself I was going to be successful, but never, for some reason, put it into play. When I got to high school I never studied, never payed attention and somehow became one of the lowest GPA holders. Part was immaturity, part depression, part fear. I don't know. I know I was smart enough, because I rarely saw anything I either didn't understand, or had doubt of ever understanding it. It just was too lazy. But now I've been given a second chance with community college (thank god) and really do not want to mess it up.

What do you do, and what make you do so well, even when things get so bad, and your morale is nearly non-existent. How do you cope when you are slammed with tons of homework, expecting a huge exam within a day or two, and still have no idea how to do half of what is expected? I know I can understand anything, and fairly quickly and pretty much retain most of it for the rest of my life. But I don't know if I can do it effectively in such a way that a school requires. What do you all do? No one is perfect. I know this.

Slow and steady. Find some friends that are as focused on their studies as you want to be. Keep it up semester in and semester out. Have it all written out, and when you're screwing around on the internet the night before a test when you should be studying-- recognize that you're sabotaging yourself, and think back to the letter you wrote.

Just some thoughts.

I'm just giving study skills advice.

Do your best and realize it( if you truly did do your best). The rest will sort itself out.

Also, if you know you lack some knowledge then you need to plan your time out better. Buy a book about time management or look around the next for a self-help guide concerning time management. Good luck.

It sounds stupid but get a big calendar, hang it in your room and write everything you need to have done down on it, including exams. I get a lot of homework every night and frequent exams but I just chip away at everything slowly. I come home, do all the homework I can, study for a bit, go hang out with friends, and go to bed at a decent hour. If I don't have much hw that day, I finish hw for other classes but pretty much I just do everything I'm assigned that day. This includes the projects and papers that aren't due for weeks. That way I feel like I'm ahead and have plenty of time to study for exams. I never stay up late doing homework or studying because it doesn't help and isn't necessary. Also, if I have a huge research paper or lab report due, I do sections of it at a time that way I'm not writing an entire paper the night before it's due. I also leave enough time to go back over it and correct sections. A lot of my friends are really unmotivated and are struggling, so I also help them study before a test which cements it in my mind even more. I think this is the best part of my strategy and so far I pull at least a 100% on most tests... I've gotten a mid A once.

I was the same in highschool. I rarely went to class but still pulled off good grades, then I went and managed for six years in retail, and I appreciate school a bit more now. Just realize what is important and don't let anything get you off track. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed by the amount of work and if you get frustrated, step away from it for a minute and think of what you are working towards. If your grades or test scores are suffering at all, ask someone who is performing well for help. I help people all the time and I'm sure those people would be more than willing.
