Does anybody know if it's a good idea to keep the same personal essay you wrote for the previous cycle and use it for this cycle? I mean I really like my essay so I don't want to change it just because I'm applying. I'm just afraid that school would look badly into something like that. Any advice please? And does anyone know where I can go to look at example essays for dental school? 😕

You may want to include any additional work, courses, volunteer, etc. activities that you did since last year. You do not want to appear that you just "took the year off".

^yeah if you have time just try to make it better. im sure you can always make it better. i started to work on my PS 3 months ago and it kept changing until the very last minute when i submitted my application. even now i dont think my PS is at its very best. i just submitted it because i didnt want to waste anymore time.

if your applying this year you might wanna hurry...dont apply late

DEFINATELY rewrite your personal statement. the mere fact that you are reapplying should indicate that you should write a new one. you said yourself you wouldn't want dschools to look badly upon that. well they probably would think that you didn't care enough. your personal statement is suppose to be a reflection of YOU. i would include what you have learned over the past year and make sure to put things that are different from last time. you want to give them reasons to take you this year that you didn't give them last year. good luck 👍 :luck:

I asked this question to many prehealth advisors and teachers and got a whole range of responses. Some people told me if I felt comfortable submitting the same PS then it would be fine. Yet others told me to rewrite the whole thing because obviously it wasn't working before and why take the risk of adcoms figuring out I used the same thing. I would defn at least revise your PS if not rewrite the whole thing. I ended up doing a complete over haul on my PS and I have to say I felt a lot better after that because I knew I tried really hard to make it the best essay possible. I think I used less then two sentences from my last one. Surely you have improved your application in some way over the past year, had new shadowing experiences, or have a new perspective on the field of dentistry and why you want to enter the profession. Don't regret not changing your PS and then kicking yourself for not doing this! It's a pain in the a** but then again it could make a big difference in the outcome this time around. Best of luck

Wow I really dont agree with that. I concur that you should definately revise your PS adding in the enlightening experriences and volunteer work/dental experience that you have done over the past year. But DO NOT do a complete overhaul of your PS. Dont you think Adcoms will think it strange that last you said you wanted to be a dentist becasue of X reason, and now that you were rejected and that reason didnt get you into dental school you have a Completly new reason that you want to go to dental school. personally if I were an adcom i'd find taht kind of shady

if you think your ps is really good and you missed out because of
-applying late or
-low DAT which you retook and fixed

then i'd reuse it
