Hey guys, I just have a quick question regarding personal essay. This will be my second time going through the cycle. I'm wondering how much should I deviate from my original essay which covered core aspects of why do I wish to pursue a career in dentistry. Do I need to deviate or should I just add the extra stuff I have done in the past year (EC's, academics, etc.). I don't know if this happens but can the same essay be used twice? If so, is it frowned upon? Thanks in advance and appreciate all the help.

I am in the same situation, and would also like an answer. I think AADSAS said you need to write a new one, but I am not sure what that means (does editing last years count?). I think it may be worth rewriting from scratch since we did not get in the first try.

If you are applying to the same dental schools as the first time, I would definitely write a new essay. From my personal experience with the application and acceptance process, your personal essay is not usually the make it or break it item in your application. It is typically your grades, DAT scores that separate you from the pack, either in a good or bad way. If you are a slam dunk to be accepted, then I highly doubt they even look at your essay and if they don't feel you are strong enough to warrant a spot the application committee might not even glance at the personal statement.

That is just 2 cents.
