Hi guys, I'm going to be reapplying in this year's cycle. I'm still working on my primary. I know it's late, but I spent almost all of the summer studying for the MCAT that I just recently retook. What I'm here to ask about is some advice on my personal statement.

Like I said, it's very late in this cycle, and I'm applying as someone who just graduated from undergrad this year. In my senior year, I didn't do much other than research (which did not result in a publication). I plan to look for a job and volunteer opportunities now that I have the time. But since I have not actually found any yet, can I still explain in my essay the kinds of job and volunteer opportunities I'm currently looking for? I have a sense for what I want to do and why I want to do it, but it's a matter of finding those opportunities now. Is it wise to include plans in my essay if I explain why I am pursuing those plans?

The reason I am asking is because I have a lot of research and volunteer experiences from my first three years of college which helped me answer the "why do you want to be a doctor?" question in my primary from last year. However, I've not done much since, aside from a non-health related research project my senior year. I could answer the above question again with those previous experiences, but how do I explain that I have grown in the last year? As I mentioned, I have plans to show this, but is it a good idea to include these in my personal statement?

Thanks for reading this. I know it is late in the cycle for this year, but I would still like to give it a try. If there isn't anything that comes of it, I will be doing this again next year. Any advice on my current personal statement would be appreciated.

Your personal statemet should be about you. What makes you interesting and unique? remember that the adcoms read hundreds of these and they need something interesting to read. What are your redeeming qualities, experiences, talents, etc. Forget about answering the I want to be a doctor questions, write about you. They know you want to be a doctor. If you need assistance feel free to pm me.
