Hello, haven't posted on here in awhile.

Already sent my personal statement to a few of you to read, but to everyone else, if interested please let me know and I'll send it to you. I am generally open to suggestions, but no longer open to any major edits as I have already had mine extensively reviewed by advising and fellow pre-dent/dental students. Why bother reading it then? Asides from just some affirmation, I want to know if there are any GLARING issues with it that will automatically send me a rejection. Otherwise, I am content with knowing that it will never be perfect, but that I have tried my absolute best. Probably have spent almost the same amount of time studying for the DAT as I have writing this essay.

The other thing: I need some affirmation with my game plan.

Stats-wise, I think I'm alright.

oGPA 3.62, sGPA 3.62 Biomedical Engineering

25/25/25 DAT

However, the question is...do these stats make up for my "late" application? I know it's not that late, but I also know that I should probably send it in ASAP.

Transcripts, letters, and DAT are all in. Just need to send my personal statement. Let me know, thanks everyone.

do you really think you're gonna have trouble getting in? congratz on your acceptance.

I believe I should get into at least one school, but as 1 applicant out of 2000 for my top schools, it's a daunting task nonetheless.

UCSF posted a great quote a while ago about personal statements for medical schools. I'm obviously paraphrasing but basically it says - pre-medical [and presumably dental] students belabor the importance of the PS and overemphasize it's significance in the admissions process. the PS won't get you into school, but it can keep you out.

with a 25 AA and a 3.6< GPA engineering degree, you seem smart enough to figure out your own chances...

That is mind-boggling.. Please for your own sake, finish it ASAP and e-submit.

And your stats are competitive, especially considering your relatively difficult major.

As a pending re-applicant myself, I can tell you that it's healthy to be skeptical on acquiring a d-school acceptance even if he/she thinks his/her academic stats are competitive. My experience from last cycle at my in-state schools taught me this lesson. If admissions to a d-school was truly based on academic merits and the standard fare consisting of LOR's, EC, shadowing, volunteering and interview; then I'm sure this would relieve many nightmares. Though we may never know how the admissions process is handled, my advice for you is be sure to apply broadly and don't be frugal on applications.

aqz. Just submit. With your amazing stats, I wouldn't jeopardize my chances b/c of a PS, specially if your PS has been peer-reviewed by others. It took me a little over a month for my PS, but after fixing it about 10 times, I had to tell myself it was enough.

My DAT isn't for another few weeks, but all other aspects of my application have been completed and submitted. I called the admissions of the dental schools I was applying to, and actually asked them if I was cutting it close, and all except one told me that I would be fine, and that they would still look at my application and offer interviews, if appropriate. Mind you, my DAT is in August. The one school that said it was a little close was U of M, but then again, their pool closes on 10/15. If I were you, I would submit your application in the next week or two. My GPA was verified in like, 6 days, but don't count on that. Your stats are amazing, you will be fine.

I suppose everything sounds pretty good then.

Also applying to U of M, hope you do well on your DAT.

Quick question, if my evaluations status still doesn't have a date under "status date", does that mean my letters haven't been received/processed?

I think that's correct. As soon as my letters were uploaded, I received an email notifying me, and a date and status was added. However, I do think you can e-submit your application without the letters, and your application will be updated when the letters are submitted. Are you using interfolio?

I'm using a service similar to Interfolio that's provided by U of M because I go here for undergrad. I'm going to have to go in to the career center on Monday and personally hand them the matching form instead of doing the whole attach the pdf and email it thing.

Also, I just e-submitted. Everything is in besides my letters. At this rate, can I expect everything to be verified and mailed out before August? (Probably will be writing my secondaries during this time).

I had my transcripts uploaded June 12th, esubmitted July 6th, and was verified July 12th (3rd batch mail out). You should be fine 🙂
