personal statement complications

so I've been writing my statement these past few weeks. I have a solid content however essay is lacking an intro. I originally was going to write about how getting my first pair of glasses at the age of 5 changed my life and academic. However some of my friends are saying it should be more recent. I am struggling to find a story that i can incorporate into my essay. But if u ask me "why optometry?" my core story goes back to my child hood? any recommendations?

Hello there! I had a similar situation when I was writing my personal statement last year. I agree with your friends, I did an admissions workshop at SCCO/MKBU and their first piece of advice was: don't tell a story about your first pair of glasses or your family member with glaucoma, it's far too common.

Do you have any specific shadowing experiences with a patient or OD that made you choose optometry? Or a hobby/activity that prepared you for becoming an OD? A mixture of these two is what I ended up going with. Keep brainstorming! You got this 🙂
